BLANCHESTER, OH (FOX19) - An automotive parts company is laying off over 100 workers from its Blanchester facility.
Approximately 107 workers will be laid off from American Showa, Inc. effective Aug. 24. In addition, about 66 temporary associates will be impacted by the reduction.
There will be eight hourly technician positions, five hourly supervised position and two salaried specialist positions and one manager position eliminated. The reduction in force is expected to be indefinite. The hourly associates will have recall rights for one year.
The Blanchester plan produces power steering units for the automotive industry. Company officials say that most customers are changing the technology from hydraulic power steering to electric power steering, which greatly changes the manufacturing process. The Blanchester plan is not equipped to meet the requirements of the new technology.
