Officer turns self in after federal drug indictment

NORTH COLLEGE HILL, OH (FOX19) - A veteran North College Hill police officer turned himself into federal authorities on Wednesday after he was one of 11 people indicted on charges of conspiring to smuggle marijuana from Texas to Cincinnati.

The indictment says the marijuana was stored and processed at used car dealerships and a Hamilton County farmhouse.

Officer Bryon Roos, a 13-year veteran of the NCH police force, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana and faces at least 10 years and up to life in prison.

"This was a 13-year veteran, a decorated officer. This has certainly been a shock to us," said Police Chief Gary Foust. "The public needs to have confidence and trust in their police department and while this is an allegation, it is certainly a concern to us."

Roos has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the case.
