COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - A Covington dry cleaning business burns on Sunday morning and is torn down on Monday.
The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. on East 12th Street at L&L Dry Cleaners in Covington.
Forty-three firefighters from five Northern Kentucky departments battled the blaze.
At one point, smoke could be seen from across the river in Cincinnati.
There were some apartments above the business, but they were vacant so authorities say no one was injured.
The roof of L&L collapsed onto the building so it had to be torn down.
L&L Dry Cleaners opened in 1947. Paul Landrum, a third generation owner, had difficulty dealing with the loss of his family business. "The greatest thing you can do is work for your family and the worst thing you can do is work for your family," said Butch Landrum, a third generation family member who is the current owner of L & L Dry Cleaners.
"Every time I see parts of it fall it just hurts even more," said Landrum. "I'm just kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. I don't know what to do."
On Monday, crews tore the building down.
"We lived on the third floor, which is not there at this point, and it's heartbreaking," said Karen Landrum.
