PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A 13-year-old student who allegedly fired several shots near Maurice C. Cash Elementary School early Monday afternoon will be charged under Arizona Shannon's Law for disrupting an educational institution, police said.
No one was hurt in the shooting, police said.
The student had been suspended from school Tuesday and was seen near the campus Friday, officers said.
When he returned Monday, someone said something to him that led the student to fire several rounds in what police characterized as a "show of intimidation."
Police said no students were outside at the time.
Shannon's Law is named after an Arizona girl who was killed by a stray bullet in 1999 when she was 14 years old.
The school, at 3851 West Roeser Rd., was placed on lockdown for about an hour.
After firing the shots, the student fled on foot and officers found him hiding in his backyard.
"Our officers came down to the scene here and ultimately located him hiding in the backyard of his residence. There were individuals inside the home who were not cooperating with officers," Sgt. Trent Crump said. "They would not open the door. They weren't coming to the door."
Police said they found a rifle and shotgun on the property.
Witnesses said there was a second person with the 13-year-old who police are trying to identify.
