GE Employees Killed In Explosion

One American among dead after a car bomb explosion

Military officials are saying an American is among the dead after a car-bomb went off in Baghdad today, leaving at least 12 dead and dozens injured. The military says two Britons, one Frenchman and another foreigner of unknown nationality were also among those killed.

General Electric says the fatalities included three of its employees, and two security contractors.

The explosion came as a convoy of three SUVs carrying foreign contractors made its way through a square in Baghdad. The blast also destroyed five other vehicles as well as nearby shops and a two-story house.

The blast comes nearly two weeks before the June 30th handover of power to the interim government.
