Police ID bicyclist who died after being struck by car

EAST END, OH (FOX19) -

Police have identified a bicyclist who died Tuesday morning after being struck by a car near Lunken Airport.

It happened just before 6:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Wilmer Avenue, near Lunken Park Drive.

Police say Andrew Gast, 27, was struck from behind by a Chevy Malibu driven by Melvin White, 49.

Police say Gast suffered serious head injuries and died at the hospital.

The driver of the car remained at the scene. There's no word yet if any charges will be filed.

Wilmer Avenue was shut down in both directions, but reopened at about 9:30 a.m.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call the Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
