Plane hits bird, ends up in mud
It was a bird -- and a plane -- and then a lot of mud. Authorities in Pittsburgh say a US Airways jet veered off a runway early today after it hit a bird. They say the incident, which came after the plane touched down, disabled a steering mechanism. The plane ended up mired in the mud. The passengers had to be taken by bus to the terminal, where they waited several more hours for their luggage. The flight had already been delayed in North Carolina because of storms. An airline spokeswoman said the bird was a turkey -- but an airport official says crews found a dead owl.
