Installation of software and new cameras will require a one day suspension of license issuing activity in the Kenton County Circuit Court Clerks Covington office Wednesday, Aug. 29.
The new driver's license system will start in the fall, but all license branch locations will use the suspension to install software and all cameras. All other operations are not affected and the office will be open all day, driver's license operations will resume on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Independence and Erlanger branches will install their equipment on Oct. 17 and 19, respectively.
The new license has multiple layers of security features, all linked to each other, so counterfeiters must compromise multiple technologies not just one. The features include; a digital watermark unseen by the human eye, bank note level fine line printing, improved dual side lamination, and a hologram with a single color ultraviolet ghost image
Also starting in the fall, the new licenses will feature veteran and donor designations.
The cost for an ID is still $20.
