CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Prime spots to watch the fireworks are filling up fast especially if you own a boat.
A group of boaters who've been staking out their spots along the river for more than a week.
This a very narrow stretch of beach in Newport, but there's only room for about a dozen boats. That's why the owners of the boats have staked out their spots early in anticipation of Riverfest.
Pete Beltramo and his family have been enjoying the same spot for past several years aboard their boat the Ellie-Kate and he says this year they arrived on Aug. 21. "Look at the view. That's the attraction. We have one of the best seats in the house. We're down here from 10 days to two weeks anticipating the fireworks, but that's sort of the icing on the cake."
Beltramo says he values the fireworks, but its the company of his fellow boaters he says is priceless. "It's that whole time we spend down here with all the other boaters we see every year, we look forward to seeing every year."
Janice Schneider says there's plenty to keep them busy in the days before the fireworks. "Partying, relaxing, enjoying each other's company."
Schneider says the days just before the fireworks are the best. "It's with really good friends that we've been boating together for 20 years, and it's just relaxing and comfortable and you don't have a lot of people on the boat. It's just relaxing."
Schneider's husband Tim says the ambience is great. "There's nothing more beautiful than looking at this river at night time. The lights and the bridges, they're just spectacular."
Dave and Marilyn Kreidenweis, aboard the wet spot, say its worth the trouble to get a good spot for the fireworks. "Other than the fireworks display in NY harbor this is probably the premier fireworks display in this area, quite spectacular, the brilliance of the fireworks coordinated with the music."
Taylor park just above the shoreline will be packed with spectators Sunday night, but the folks along the beach have a front row seat and their not going to give it up.
