(WMC-TV) – A man is behind bars accused of killing his estranged wife with a pocketknife.

Bond has not yet been set for Travis Capshaw. He is charged with first degree murder.

His father, Robert, is forlorn as he speaks with Action News 5 about his son's arrest.

"He's, uh, he's a quiet type fella," said Robert. "I don't know what happened, uh, on this deal."

His son, Travis, is accused of killing Ranita Burke.

Burke worked at a Revenue Recovery office on Summer Avenue. Police say Capshaw showed up at her office Thursday afternoon and sat in the parking lot waiting for her to leave.

Investigators say he attacked her as she got into her car. They say he stabbed her repeatedly with a pocket knife while she called out for help. She was taken to The MED where she died.

"He called his mom and said, ‘I done killed my wife. I'm on the way to kill myself.' That's all I know is what I was told," said Robert.

Police captured Travis Capshaw two hours later after he wrecked his car in Madison County.

Robert Capshaw told Action News 5 his son and Burke have a daughter together and that she had three other children, too.

"No, don't nobody know what they gonna go through," said Robert. "That's my whole thing is how they gonna get along, you know, I'm talking about mom gone, dad gonna be locked up."

Travis Capshaw has a history of prior arrests including a 2011 domestic assault charge that was dismissed in general sessions court.

He is due in court on Tuesday.
