Families of children affected by blood disorders host benefit

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The second annual Blazin' with Love event was held in Mason to benefit Leukemia and Lymphoma societies Saturday. The 5k run/walk and cornhole tournament took place at the Golf Center at Kings Island.

The families of tree Mason children affected by blood cancers and blood disorders joined together to create the event. All proceeds go to the Tri-State chapters of the Leukemia and Lymphoma societies. Of the three families involved, two children are thriving after successful bone marrow transplants, the other is back to playing sports after two and a half years of treatment. All have battled long term treatment phases with harsh side effects, but are getting second chances that weren't available as little as two decades ago.

The event, presented by PowerNet, included a kids run, silent auction, wine ring toss, music, and food. Cash prizes were given away to race competitors, and silent auction items included sports tickets, spa services, vacation stays, gift baskets, jewelry, and more.

Platinum sponsors included: Hoxworth Blood Center, and the Buckeye Running Company.
