Deaf College

The City Council in Mason has approved a zoning change for a dormitory that would house students at what would be the first deaf religious college in Ohio. It also would be the first deaf college in the Cincinnati area if backers can find the money to build it.

The Reverend Fred Adams of the Sword Deaf Baptist Church in Mason, says he has a fund-raising goal of 800-thousand dollars. The church also won approval to expand the church building to include a gymnasium and small community center for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Adams says the church hopes to break ground for the dormitory in November and begin receiving students in late 2005.
