A jury recommended life in prison without parole for a man convicted of murdering a Hamilton couple. The Butler County Common Pleas jury deliberated for more than ten hours before reaching a decision about midnight in the case of 22-year-old Jason Campbell of Middletown. He was convicted of robbing and killing 44-year-old Donald Riley and his wife 55-year-old wife, Helen, at their home last February. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty. Campbell asked the jury for mercy yesterday and apologized to the victims and their families. He had confessed to strangling Donald Riley and stabbing and slitting Helen Riley's throat after his escape from a minimum-security facility, A psychologist testified that Campbell was abused and neglected as a child.
