Teen under investigation for threatening tweet against Pres. Obama

CLARKSVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

A local teenager is under investigation after posting a tweet saying that President Obama should be assassinated.

The 16-year-old girl, a student at Clinton-Massie High School, tweeted Thursday night, "Someone needs to assassinate Obama...like ASAP."

Mike Sander, superintendent of Clinton-Massie Local Schools, said he contacted the Secret Service after receiving several emails.

"The principal and myself were unaware of this until we both received a large number of emails overnight from people all around the country, as well as individuals from outside of the country concerned about (the girl's) tweet," Sander said.

Sander also said the girl's parents came to the school to meet with school officials on Friday. They were given the option to go home or to stay on school grounds to meet with secret service agents. They chose to meet with agents in their home.

The girl was not at school on Friday.

"The principal discussed with students the limits of The Bill of Rights," said Sander. "There is a responsibility to be politically active, but appropriate. We promote positive ways to make changes."
