Local events mark anniversary of 9/11

Several events are being held throughout the Tri-State on Tuesday to mark the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

  • The Northern Kentucky Firefighter's Association will be having a brief service and moment of silence. The service will be at the NKY Firefighter's 9/11 Memorial in front of the World Peace Bell in Newport at 8:46 a.m. Several local fire departments will have representatives present to place a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial. This event is open to the public.
  • A service is being held at the Warren County 9/11 Memorial to honor two Warren County residents who died in the World Trade Center. Former Bengal Anthony Munoz will speak. The event is at 9:45 a.m. at 550 Justice Drive, Lebanon.
  • From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the original Cincinnati Enquirer editorial drawings created hours after the attacks will be on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
  • Fairfield Elementary is holding a flag ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Students will dress in patriotic colors and sing America the Beautiful.
  • From 7 to 10 p.m. at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Colerain, the organization firefighterwife.com is hosting a meet and greet and encouraging the public to donate sports drinks that will be distributed to local fire departments.
  • Morton's Steakhouse is giving away free filet sandwiches to local firefighters from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • The Bayou Fish House is offering meals to firefighters and police officers
  • Gov. John Kasich and Gov. Steve Beshear will order that flags across Ohio and Kentucky be flown at half-staff to honor the victims.
  • The Cincinnati Reds will welcome the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division Air Assault team from Fort Campbell for a pregame parachute demonstration. In addition, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department Pipe and Bag Corps will perform on Crosley Terrace, the Ford Oval of Honor will solute over 20 heroes of the Armed Forces, a moment of silence will be held and God Bless America will be played on the trumpet during the 7th inning stretch. The Reds take on the Pirates at 7:05 p.m.
  • The City of Monroe is hosting a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in front of the City Urban Center at 233 Main Street. The fire department's color guard will be retiring the flag and the police department's honor guard will be giving a three round volley salute in honor of the police and fire departments who have the ultimate sacrifice.
  • The Campbell County School District is honoring the victims of 9/11 by holding a day of good deeds. Students will deliver homemade apple pies to firefighters, serve dinner to firefighters and perform random acts of kindness.
  • Firehouse Grill will deliver lunch to local fire stations throughout the day
  • The Butler County Firefighters are holding a ceremony at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Monument Avenue in Hamilton at 6:30 p.m.
  • Kings Local School District students are taking part in a day of service throughout the community.
