State jobless rate decreases to 5.6 percent in May

Ohio's unemployment rate dropped slightly in May to five-point-six percent. That's down from five-point-eight percent in April. The national rate was five-point-six percent, unchanged from the previuos month.

State officials say Morgan County had the highest unemployment rate in May at 13-point-eight percent, and Holmes County had the lowest rate at two-point-nine percent. About 327-thousand Ohio workers were unemployed in May, down from 343-thousand in April. The county and city rates are unadjusted, meaning they do not take into account seasonal adjustments in employment.
