"Batman" hides out in Albany

Posted: Updated:

Four different law enforcement agencies were called in to search for a man dressed as Batman.

Albany Police say a man dressed as Batman pointed a gun at one of their officers at SB&T Bank. The man dressed as Batman is still on the loose. Police are doing everything to find him.

In the comic books and cartoons, the Cape Crusader is known as a crime fighter. "I guess Batman was always kind of the masked vigilante in the comic books and the police were always after him and never caught him," said Albany Technical Student Brian Whorter.

However these blue lights tell a different tale. "Batman is supposed to uphold justice," said Darton College Student Jonathan Leblanc.

"I don't know it's just something about Batman trying to rob people is funny," said Whorter.

It may seem comical, but it was no laughing matter. Shortly after 10 last night, an APD officer escorted a Captain D's employee to the bank to make a deposit.

Police say the two heard strange noises around the bank's ac unit. The officer went over to check things out and that's when a man, with a Batman Mask and Cape, jumped out and pointed a gun at the officer.

The officer shot his gun and missed. "If anybody pulled a gun on me that would be it. You pull on a gun on me and I'm going to pull a gun on you as well," said Leblanc.

The suspect left the scene on foot. Four different law enforcement agencies searched for the masked man. They even brought in a helicopter to help with the search.

"If he is behind a mask, there's not much they can do. They can just go on the clues they have," said Leblanc.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, dressed in all black, wearing a Batman mask and Superhero cape. He stands between 5'8 and 5'10 and weighing anywhere from 160 to 180 pounds.
