AMELIA, OH (FOX19) - Dozens of supporters lined Ohio Pike in Clermont County Thursday to pay tribute to a fallen Marine.

PFC Jonathon Crawford, 19, died Friday after just finishing boot camp in South Carolina. He was last seen swimming about 40-yards from shore when a relative lost sight of him and immediately called 9-1-1. Authorities in South Carolina say Crawford got caught in a rip current and was pulled under.

"I feel sick. I couldn't stop thinking about it," said Kathy Rodenberg. "I haven't stopped thinking about it." "

This accident that happened, we give our hearts out to the family. It is very, very sad," Said Grant Knudsen

PFC Crawford was a 2012 graduate of Amelia High School.

"The nicest person you'll ever meet," said former classmate, Keith Brown. "He's friends with everybody, he talked to everybody. All the teachers, everybody."

There was little doubt what Crawford was going to do once he graduated high school.

"He made it known that he was going into the Marines. He was going to be what he could be," said Brown.

Visitation for PFC Crawford will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Nurre funeral home with the funeral immediately following.
