FRANKLIN, OH (FOX19) - A man has been arrested after police say he struck a beverage cooler inside the Pit Stop Drive Thru in Franklin on Friday.
Authorities say Adam Volkerding, 31, entered the store located on East Second Street around 2 p.m. and then fled the scene after striking the cooler while driving his pickup truck. A witness was able to give a description and license plate of the truck to police. The pickup truck was located within minutes at a residence on Victoria Drive.
As the officer approached Volkerding, he fled on foot into the house. When the officer knocked on the door, Volkerding opened the door, spoke to the officer then shut and locked the door refusing to come out. The officer knocked again and got the same result. The third time the officer knocked, he did not give Volkerding a chance to shut the door and attempted to take him into custody. Volkerding was pepper sprayed after a physical confrontation and was finally taken into custody.
A loaded handgun was found in a holster on Volkerding's hip after he was handcuffed. He received first aid at the scene. The officer was not injured during the struggle.
Volkerding has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash, driving under suspension, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs of abuse, resisting arrest and having weapons under disability. He is being held at the Warren County Jail on a $17,500 bond. His concealed carry privileges have been suspended and he will appear in Franklin Municipal Court on Tuesday, September 18.
