The Cincinnati Reds said Dusty Baker remains in a hospital in Chicago, but is expected to be back in Cincinnati on Friday.
Baker was taken to the hospital on Wednesday for an irregular heartbeat. He was checked out for what was thought to be pneumonia.
Reds officials say Baker has had a history of an irregular heartbeat.
General Manager Walt Jocketty visited Baker on Thursday, and said he is feeling good, but doctors want to monitor his progress for one more day.
In the meantime, Bench Coach Chris Speier is managing the Reds in Thursday afternoon's game against the Cubs. Speier also managed the Reds Wednesday night in their 6-5 win.
The Reds magic number is now at 3.
