4 feared dead in Bedford County house fire

Two people in their 70s and two children under the age of 10 are believed to have died in a house fire in Bedford County late Sunday night.

The fire occurred at a home on Kingdom Road around 11 p.m.

The victims have been identified as 72-year-old Leon McClaran, Molly McClaran, 70, Chloe Pope, 9, and 7-year-old Gage Daniel.

The McClarans' bodies have been recovered, but crews continue to search for the remains of the children.

The children, who attended Community Elementary School in Unionville, TN, were the couple's step-grandchildren, according to family members.

Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce said he believed the home was a two-story house that collapsed into the basement.

The cause of the fire has not been released.

As awful as the story is, neighbors said the situation could have been even more tragic. There had been talk of a friend spending the night with Chloe, and now, mother Rebecca Teague can only be left to wonder.

The Teagues have lived just up the driveway from the McClarans for years, and Teague said his 7-year-old daughter, Autumn, had been begging for a Sunday night sleepover with Chloe.

"I said, 'Baby, it's a school night. You'll be able to see Chloe in the morning,'" Teague said.

But Autumn never got that chance.

"They were very special to me and my family," Teague said.

Autumn and Chloe used to ride horses together and play on the driveway between their homes.

"It's scary to think my little girl could've been in there, but thank goodness she wasn't," Teague said.
