Police Beating

Police chief: Please don't rush to judgment

The Los Angeles police chief concedes that people will look at a videotape of a police beating and say, "Oh my God." But Chief William Bratton urges the public to withhold judgment until the investigations are complete.

Bratton told NBC's "Today" show that "we'll look at it in every way we can." Bratton says the suspect hadn't been searched for weapons yet and police were trying to get control of him.

Three officers are being investigated for alleged excessive use of force in the arrest of an unarmed black man following a car chase. The FBI and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are also investigating.

Mayor James Hahn told NBC that this isn't the Rodney King beating all over again. Hahn says the "new" LAPD won't tolerate this kind of excessive force.
