DUNKLIN COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

He was pinned under a three-wheeler, badly injured, and all but certain he would die. That is until a mystery man appeared, a good Samaritan, or maybe a guardian angel a local hunter feels saved his life.

Jeff Gribble says he was on his way home from hunting Monday night when his ATV flipped into a ditch, trapping him underneath.

It was after 8 p.m., pitch black outside and Gribble was wearing camouflage.

"I should be dead," said Gribble. "Honestly, I thought I was going to die. I thought nobody's gonna find me and this is gonna be it."

He says the dark gravel road with no reflectors got the best of him.

"It came to a dead T and I didn't see it," said Gribble. "I went off in a six foot ditch and flipped over and the ATV went straight on top of me."

Gribble was trapped, and the ATV was upside down. His face was pinned at the edge of back rack.

"I could hear cars passing by," said Gribble. "I had the camo on and the gilly suit on so I was invisible and no one could see me."

He says he yelled for help but it was no use. With only one arm free, he couldn't get to his cell phone. But he says he could reach a small light his wife gave him just the day before. Thankfully one person saw it.

"The way I see it this man out of no where came to save me," said Gribble.

Gribble says the man dug his cell phone out of his pocket to call 911 and then ran to a nearby house so he could get an better location to guide in first responders. After that the man disappeared.

"He never came back for me to say thank you," said Gribble.

Gribble feels he had to have a guardian angel because so many odds were against him. He could have ended up in the left side of the ditch with inches of standing water, but instead he ended up in the dry side.

"There were only spiders over there," remembered Gribble. "It even took the police thirty minutes to find me after I got there. They finally spotted me. It was so dark. I was helpless."

Eventually he was spotted and unpinned. He has numerous injuries.

Doctors say if the ATV had landed just inches in another direction, Gribble would not be alive. Yet he is standing. He says he's thanked the good Lord many times and would now like to personally thank the mystery man he feels God sent to save him.

"I really appreciate him," said Gribble. "He saved my life."

Gribble is hoping someone can help him figure out who the good Samaritan is. As for Gribble he is an industrial roofer. He says he's used to a risky job, and he's anxious to get back to working on high rooftops as soon as possible.

He says this experience has taught him to always tell someone where he is, wear a helmet, and maybe wear some more bright orange next time he's out hunting at night.
