BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) – A Kentucky State Police trooper from the Elizabethtown post was injured while making a traffic stop when the driver resisted arrest.

According to a press release, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Trooper Jonathan Downs stopped a car for going 106 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone on the Bluegrass Parkway near mile marker 18. After the driver, Jason E. Aaron, 26, of Bardstown, failed field sobriety tests, Downs went to place him under arrest.

The release states that Aaron would not follow instructions from Downs and the two got into an altercation. Downs had to use his Taser twice on Aaron before he was able to get him in custody.

Aaron is charged with assault, resisting arrest, menacing, speeding, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and several other traffic offenses. He was booked into the Nelson County Jail.

Downs suffered what is being called a significant injury to his hand and was treated at Flaget Memorial Hospital and was referred to a hand specialist.
