In August, a San Diego woman in her fifties was seriously injured after slipping on her bathroom floor and falling from a second-story window. This recent accident inspired new efforts to minimize preventable bathroom accidents. Comprehensive Glassworks owner Shakeel Darugar introduces new safety procedures and designs to stop such accidents from occurring.

“We wish to assist in making your bathroom a safer place and can accomplish this through the services we offer,” Darugar states.
He adds, “Although bathroom accidents are common occurrences, we can prevent many of these from happening by employing the safest fixtures inside the bathroom.”
The woman’s accident is just one of the estimated 235,000 bathroom-related accidents every year. A majority of these accidents occur while showering and many result in hospitalization. Learn more about the accident.
“Bathroom floors often get wet when the bath or shower is used from water splashes, however with proper shower enclosures installed and safety precautions these accidents can be minimized,” Darugar points out.
“Properly designed bathroom enclosures prevent water from escaping and creating slippery surfaces, which prevents accidents such as falls or slips,” he emphasizes further.
Comprehensive Glassworks takes pride in using only the highest quality materials and latest safety precautions for all their shower enclosure, window and mirror installations.
The safest materials available for glass enclosures are either tempered or laminated glass. These pass the strictest impact and safety standards of any glass products. Tempered glass is treated with heat during its production. As a result, it does not splinter or break, but disintegrates into tiny pieces during accidents. The laminated glass features a plastic foil sheet placed in the middle of two glass panes. In case of breaks, this plastic sheet holds the broken glass pieces together and minimizes chance of serious injury.
Shakeel Darugar says, “The glass materials we use for our shower enclosures are guaranteed to meet the strictest impact standards of the glass industry.”
“This is our guarantee to our clients who may also be concerned about the number of accidents that were caused by glass fixtures inside the bathroom, like shower enclosures,” he stresses.
In 2009, there were over 1, 000 accidents involving glass shower and bath enclosures across the spectrum of age groups indicating that it’s not a phenomenon of older age people, but an epidemic that needs to be addressed.
“Comprehensive Glassworks is dedicated to offering products that will decrease accident and injury risks in the bathroom,” Darugar reiterates.
Comprehensive Glassworks has installed glass products for more than 20 years and serves the greater San Diego area including Pacific Beach, Chula Vista, Mission Valley, La Jolla and Coronado. Aside from shower enclosures, bathroom mirrors and windows, the glass company also offers commercial store fronts, glass railings and mirrored wardrobe doors.
