KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A 23-year-old woman needs plastic surgery after her boyfriend's mother slashed her face with brass knuckles that had a built-in knife, authorities said Monday.
Vera Adams, also known as Vera Campbell, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. The 42-year-old woman was also issued a misdemeanor citation for unlawful possession of a weapon.
The victim told police that she was attacked by her boyfriend's mother early Sunday morning because she had borrowed Adams' vehicle and returned it later than expected, according to court documents.
The victim said when she returned to the south Kansas City residence that she was getting her 11-month-old son out of his car seat. She said Adams began pushing and kicking at the baby, according to court documents.
Adams then knocked both the woman and the boy to the ground, the victim told police. Adams struck the woman in the head with the brass knuckles, according to court documents.
"I got you, I got you," Adams allegedly told the victim before fleeing the scene.
"The victim sustained a 10-inch laceration that began at her forehead and traveled down the left side of her face to the corner of her chin," according to court documents. "Medical personnel advised due to the extent of the laceration the victim would require plastic surgery to repair the injury."
The woman was rushed to a Kansas City hospital for treatment.
Adams was arrested late Sunday after police responded to a disturbance at another location.
According to court documents, Adams declined to answer questions from detectives and asked for an attorney.
