Supreme Court Rules Against Online Porn

The Justice Department is denouncing today's Supreme Court ruling in an Internet porn case.  The Supreme Court found that the law meant to protect children from on-line porn muzzles free speech.

The actual law passed in 1998 never took effect. If it had, it would have levied fines of up to 50-thousand dollars for placing material deemed harmful to minors within easy reach on the internet. The Supreme Court has sent the law back to the original court that blocked it.

Justice Department spokesman Mark Corallo says the court is opposing common sense measures designed to protect children. A new trial is scheduled, it will discuss what technology, if any, might allow adults access to material that's legal for them, while keeping it away from children.
