Miami University Director of Athletics Brad Bates is leaving Miami U for an AD job at Boston College.
Bates has been with the program since November of 2002.
During the past 10 years, Bates has presided over a program that achieved back-to-back football bowl game appearances for the first time in nearly 30 years while earning conference championships in football, women's cross country, ice hockey, baseball, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's swimming, field hockey, women's soccer, women's tennis, softball and synchronized skating.
The time period also included Miami's first-ever Frozen Four and national championship appearance in ice hockey.
"Michele and I will always cherish our years in Oxford, especially the tremendous Miami University family," said Bates. "We are eternally grateful for the friendships that have been developed with students, faculty, administration, staff, coaches and Miami alumni. We will always support and follow the RedHawks. Miami is an extraordinary institution and we know the Culture of Champions will continue to be a vision that inspires excellence long into the future."
President Hodge announced that a national search for a new Director of Athletics will be conducted. On Oct. 11, Steve Snyder was named the interim director of intercollegiate athletics at Miami University while the search continues. Snyder is a retired secretary to the board of trustees and executive assistant to the president.
"Steve's familiarity with the function of the athletic director position and with the Miami campus community will ensure a smooth transition period," said Miami President David Hodge. "We're very happy he has agreed to help us until we complete our search."
