Mayor of Hamersville charged with domestic violence

HAMERSVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Authorities say the Mayor of Hamersville was arrested and charged with domestic violence on Monday.

Mayor Wyndal Staggs, 45, was involved in an altercation with his father at the mayor's office around 9:45 a.m., according to Brown County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses told authorities Mayor Staggs became irate and his father was called to the office. When he arrived, Mayor Staggs shoved him against the wall and threw him to the floor, according to witnesses. His father also said Staggs had choked him before throwing him to the ground.

Mayor Staggs was taken to the Brown County Detention Center where he remains in custody awaiting arraignment. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Southwest Regional Hospital for a possible hip injury.

Authorities say Mayor Staggs was recently released from the Brown County Detention Center on Oct. 2 on a $5,000 own recognizance bond and released on home incarceration for another domestic violence charge involving his wife.
