Postseason games give boost to local economy

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Local businesses say the Reds' continued run through playoff season has generated increased excitement in the core of the Queen City.

"Absolutely Reds are good for business," Local's Bar and Grill General Manger Mike Perrich said. "Downtown is coming back alive, the Castellinis are really putting together a team on the field."

Perrich was hopeful the Reds would clench the series on Wednesday, the night of his bar and grill's grand opening.

"We need a win tonight," Perrich said. "We definitely want the Reds on to the next round. "

"I think the bars and all of the businesses down here are going to benefit from it," Reds fan Corey Cunningham said. "You can just kind of feel walking around the streets people are excited about it. Everybody has got their red on."

Beyond the streets of Cincinnati, local chamber officials say the coverage provides the Queen City with national exposure.

"What a great way to market Cincinnati to a wider audience, we love it," said Mindy Rosen with Downtown Cincinnati Inc.

Rosen says downtown businesses have seen increased foot traffic in recent weeks and says a number of businesses have launched Reds specials.

Despite their appreciation for increased businesses, many local spots are not looking to push their luck. As a Reds fan, Perrich had hoped the team would clench Wednesday to guarantee a spot in the next round of playoffs.
