Little Miami no longer an "excellent" district

The Ohio department of Education has downgraded the Little Miami School District from "excellent" to "effective".

The downgrade comes after the district didn't meet adequate yearly progress for the second year in a row.

"It's disappointing, you want the best for your kids and of course their education is priority and to see it slip down is a disappointment, scares me," said Andrea Gautraud, who has a kindergartner in the Little Miami School District.

Little Miami Superintendent Greg Power released this statement:

"We've been on the edge of the academic cliff for a two years now.  When state minimum operating standards have been imposed on you by a State Oversight Commission, it can't help but show up in the academic performance of your students."

Officials say the lack of staff and dollars to commit to on-going, high-quality curriculum revision and professional development lead to the downgrade.
