LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Thursday was Grand Opening Day for five businesses in downtown Lawrenceburg as part of Lawrenceburg Main Street, Inc.'s innovated program to lure shop owners to the downtown business district.
Main Street, a non-profit group funded by casino revenues, offered businesses three months free rent and utilities to set up shop on a trial basis.
"It's a perfect opportunity to bring our product down and our customer service to show Lawrenceburg what we have," said Donna Hester of DJ's Bakery.
The goal of the Pop-Up Shop program was to fill needs in the district. "There is no other bridal store in Lawrenceburg," said Whitney Settles of Eventful. "Come down and bring your dresses and look at our dresses. And then if you need a little help with planning your wedding or any party, come see me."
Customers who were shopping in the stores during the grand opening said they were happy to have the new shops in town. "All the clothing and jewelry and household things are wonderful," said Nadine Newberry of Greendale. "And now I don't have to drive so far to get to them."
