Happy Birthday to the Big One Niner from Tricia Macke

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It doesn't seem like it's been 19 years since we have been doing news... but it has. When FOX19 started its news operations from Taconic Terrace in Evendale it was an exciting new adventure.

Our newsroom was filled with people who wanted to be there, who wanted to be a part of something that was brand new in Cincinnati. It was an uphill battle. We didn't have the stockpile video of Reds highlights or footage of the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire... so, we had to think outside the box. Often times using movie clips to help tell the story. We were edgy, different, hard workers and thankfully Cincinnati accepted us.

The time slot of 10 p.m. turned out to be a Godsend to many. People constantly stopping me on the streets saying how, 'it's about time.. I can't stay up until 11 to watch the news.. I have to work in the morning!'

One of the challenges we faced being located in Evendale was the proximity to downtown Cincinnati and the construction along 75. It would take us longer to get to crime scenes and it was an uphill battle to beat or tie with the competition when it came to breaking news. Eventually, we moved to 19 Broadcast Plaza in downtown Cincinnati and with the central location, our jobs became easier to do. Our stockpile of video was building. Faces changed, we grew and evolved into a contender in local news.

In the beginning, we had a Ten O'Clock News that started Right Now!! In addition, a funky kind of Midnight News where every night a different celebrity would say the words, "Good Night Cincinnati." From Pete Rose to Fabio, you never knew who would be tucking us in for the night.

In the 19 years we have been on the air, the time of day we bring you the news has changed, but we are still a committed news station with the same goals and ideals we had when we were young.  Bring the Queen City the news they want to hear at convenient times for them in a way that is more interesting than just a news reader sitting back and feeding it with a spoon.  And my how the internet has changed how we do news.  We no longer package stories for later in the day... our Right Now slogan is truly Right Now when it comes to immediately posting stories that matter to you on the internet.  Who would have thought that we would be watching our computer screens more than we watch the television set!

I am proud to say I have been with FOX19 since day one, since that tiny newsroom near St. Rita's.  On a personal note, I am thankful that you, the viewer, gave this big haired pup of a reporter a chance to grow older and wiser before your eyes. To go from a newly married, wide eyed girl to a mother of five with some character lines... (that's a polite way to put it, eh?).

Thank you Cincinnati for allowing us to grow up with you, for giving us a second or third chance when we would make mistakes along the way, and for rewarding us for simply watching our hard work!

If you have any questions or comments... any favorite memories or favorite personalities... I'd love to chat with you about them. Simply search me on Facebook, Tricia Macke FOX19.
