WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) -
Mike Carmichael, 40, is expected to know sometime Friday if he had fungal meningitis after receiving a steroid shot from a pain clinic on Westbourne Avenue.
"Just watching the news and seeing more and more cases popping up and the next thing you know, I'm getting sent to the ER," said Carmichael.
More than 250 people nationwide have been infected by the tainted steroids from New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts. At least 20 people have died.
Carmichael received a steroid shot at comprehensive pain solutions in August. He was alerted to be tested after seeing a doctor for a routine procedure and mentioned the headaches he was having.
"I talked to my mother about it this morning" said Carmichael. "She's praying because they're down in Florida. They're down there panicking. They don't want to see me go through this."
Comprehensive Pain Solutions tells FOX19 that they do have medications from the suspected pharmacy but pulled them off the shelf as directed by the CDC. Mercy Hospital officials say the emergency room physician performed the spinal tap on Carmichael as a precaution.
