Police: Woman assaulted, forced to buy stranger groceries
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Police said they were investigating an assault after a woman was felt up and forced to buy groceries for a man she did not know in Spartanburg on Monday night.
The woman told police she was putting her groceries in her car after shopping at the Food Lion on Garner Road about 9:10 p.m. when a man approached her and asked for money.
According to a Spartanburg public safety report, the woman refused the man several times but he then began helping her put her bags in her car's trunk then touched her on her back and bottom.
To stop him, the woman said she would buy him some groceries so they returned inside, he made her get a buggy, and allowed him to pick up a few things, according to the report. She told police he repeatedly set let's do this multiple times as they were walking through the store.
Then when they went to checkout, the woman said she told the cashier she did not know who the man was as the cashier rang up the items, and the subject bagged the items and ran out of the store as she paid, the report said.
The store manager and police watched surveillance of the incident, police said. The subject has not yet been identified. The report said he may have been with another man.
