5 arrested in deadly Halloween party shooting

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A weekend Halloween party turned into a real-life horror show, and now there has been a series of arrests.

The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday at a cabin at the end of High Point Road, part of Urban Farms outside Clarksville.

The victims were identified as Jecarvin Brown, 20, and Jason Lee Rose, 21, and officers said the men were killed after what witnesses claimed was an altercation at the party.

Shakar Donte Drones, 18, is charged with two counts of criminal homicide and was being held on a $2 million bond.

Andre Nathaniel Adams, 21; Courtney Nathaniel Hardiman, 19; Harold Mosquera, 18; and Syonee Moore, 22, are each charged with being accessories after the fact in criminal homicide.

"It's senseless. I mean, it just doesn't make no sense to me why kids do this or why anybody does this," said Rose's uncle, Terry McCullough.

Investigators said Drones and Brown were fighting when shots were fired. Rose then ran over to Brown and was attempting to help him when he, too, was shot.

"He would have done it for anybody. He would have done it for me, you, anybody. He just cared that much," McCullough said.

Outgoing and funny, family members said Rose wasn't one for mincing words.

"He wasn't shy. He said what he wanted to say, and it was always something funny," McCullough said.

Investigator Billy Batson said the party began earlier Friday evening and was supposed to be a get-together for about 100 people.

"The party was posted on Facebook, which led to a lot more attendees showing up than originally expected," Batson said.

Witnesses said as many as 500 people were there.

Authorities had visited the area that evening because of loud noise, Batson said. Officers investigated to make sure there were no illegal activities, such as underage drinking, going on at the party. They found no evidence of anything illegal occurring, police said.

Around 1:49 a.m., police said a witness saw the suspected gunman shoot Brown and Rose, then get into a vehicle with several other men and flee the scene.

"After that, it was utter chaos," Batson said, adding that people scattered and attempted to leave, with hundreds being stuck on High Point Road. "Because of the hard work of our team, along with patrol officers, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Clarksville Police Department, we were able to secure the area, interview hundreds of witnesses and gain the information we needed."

One of the witnesses relayed to law enforcement the description of the vehicle in which the suspected gunman escaped, police said. A state trooper and a patrol deputy stopped the car and found two guns inside, one being the same make and type as the shell casings found at the scene.

The family who owns the property said they have been renting out the party for the last 30 years. The family would not identify the young man who rented out the property, but they did say there was security hired for the event.

"Anybody out there that wants to do something like this or is thinking about it or thinks its cool or something, it's not, and you're going to pay for it the rest of your life. It's not worth it," McCullough said.

The family of the other young man who was murdered, Jecarvin Brown, said they are in shock, because Brown had never been in trouble for fighting before and was not a violent person.

In fact, they say he was a nice, friendly young man who was pursuing a career in music. He was in a group called DNA and was planning on soon going back to school.
