The lower deck of the Western Hills Viaduct was closed Saturday morning due to a serious crash that ripped the roof off one of the vehicles involved.
Cincinnati Police say 38-year-old Nicole Owens of East Price Hill was headed westbound in her '93 Ford Tempo when she crossed into the path of a full-sized 2008 GMC pickup truck being driven by a West Price Hill man.
The impact demolished her car and ripped the roof off.
First responders were afraid she might die from the crash, but a traffic investigator says she improved markedly after arriving at the hospital and he was able to talk to her a little by mid-afternoon, though she still has extensive injuries and was on painkillers.
The crash closed the lower level of the viaduct into the afternoon.
