Rep. Crandell, of Heber, has represented the 5th district since Jan. 10, 2011. The Republican has worked in the education field for 30 years.

According to his website, his platform embraced 10 points to govern by:

  • Limit the size of government at the state and federal level.
  • Fight to take back and maintain our state and individual rights provided by the Constitution.
  • Move education to a free enterprise model.
  • Secure the border.
  • Balance our state budget through true budgeting principles with no gimmicks.
  • Advocate following the Founding Fathers.
  • Tax reform and less government red tape leads to economic development.
  • Planned use of our natural resources.
  • Continue to promote pro-life policy.
  • Continue to promote fiscally responsible legislation.

Crandell also pledged to exert all the effort possible to take control of the state's land, water, air, minerals and wildlife.

"By doing this, we become a sovereign state that will allow Arizona to be on a level economic playing field with the other states east of the Colorado border," he said.

Democratic state Rep. Tom Chabin has represented Arizona Legislative District 2 since 2007. Chabin said to grow Arizona's economy, the state must grow the educational system, from pre-school through post-secondary higher education.

To create more jobs, the Democrat said the state needs to re-examine the tax code. He calls for investing in eco-tourism. On health issues, Chabin said Kid's Care must be restored and the sales tax should be extended to continue this program. He is in favor of insurance coverage being mandated for immunizations, autism and chiropractic treatment.

On the environment, he said the proposed uranium mining in the Grand Canyon should be strongly opposed.

Redrawn Legislative District 6 includes some areas of northern and eastern Arizona. It encompasses most of Coconino County south and west of the Navajo Nation Reservation, including Flagstaff. It also embraces northeastern Yavapai County, encompassing the Verde Valley communities of Cottonwood, Verde Village and Camp Verde. It includes parts of Navajo County and the northern portion of Gila County.
