The state's two major utility companies are making progress restoring power to homes and businesses that lost power during Hurricane Sandy.
As of 8 a.m., there were still more than 482,000 utility customers in the dark Wednesday morning, down from more than 625,000 outages at the storm's peak.
According to Connecticut Light & Power, 346,880 customers were in the dark. United Illuminating was reporting 135,319 and Norwich Public Utilities was reporting 149.
Power has been restored to about one-fourth of customers, and officials would not give power restoration estimates.
"Working with the municipalities we serve, we've made significant progress in clearing roads blocked by downed trees and electrical equipment," said Bill Quinlan, CL&P senior vice president of emergency preparedness. "We are working to complete a detailed damage assessment of our 17,000 miles of overhead equipment, using patrollers on the ground and in helicopters, so we can efficiently deploy our resources for full restoration."
