Cruiser totaled after police chase from Burlington to Florence - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

Cruiser totaled after early morning chase

A police cruiser is totaled following a chase and crash in Florence early Wednesday morning.

Boone County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of two men stealing items from a parked car in the lot of Burlington Oaks on Taylor Drive and loading them into a Buick.

The suspects left before police arrived. Shortly after, a Florence police officer noticed a car matching the description and attempted to stop it. The suspect fled south on I-75 and crashed near Richwood, Ky.

The cruiser was struck by a box truck that was unable to stop. The officer involved in the crash is unharmed.

A track/search by a canine officer was unsuccessful. However, a man who emerged at the Truck Stop of America in Richwood covered in mud was questioned and ultimately released.  The second suspect was never found.

The suspect vehicle was stolen out of Covington but had yet to be reported.  The stolen items from the initial call were located in the car.

Police say they will be serving search warrants later on Wednesday.

We will continue to follow the investigation and will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
