NKU ready to kick off first basketball season as D1


The stage is set for Northern Kentucky University to kick off its first NCAA Division I men's and women's basketball seasons.

The transition not only brings more money to the university but it also boosts nearby businesses as sports fans, eat, drink and play in Highland Heights.

"We are so pumped because we're D-I so we get to play like big schools, we get more exposure," said NKU student Ledarian Jones.

NKU Spokesperson Chris Cole said there is no determine how money it will bring but it can only help.

"People are going to grab dinner before or after the game, they're going to visit local stores, buy local merchandise," said Cole.

Both squads are scheduled to play big name schools like University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University.
