The Butler County Children Services levy is up for renewal on Tuesday. It's a five-year levy that helps fund the agency responsible for investigating alleged neglect or abuse and placing children in a safe environment. It costs $61.25 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.
"This would have a devastating impact on our ability to keep kids safe so continued voter support of this is imperative," agency director Jerome Kearns told FOX19.
The levy alone generates roughly $15 million a year for the agency, but if they lose that money, the agency director says they expect to lose $11 million in federal funds which require a local match. To prevent that from happening, agency supporters are trying to educate the public about the levy renewal in hopes Butler County residents will come through again for the agency.
Kearns says the total revenue projected for next year sits around 26 million.
Because it is a renewal levy, residents will pay the same they have been paying if passed unless the value of their home changes.
Residents living in Butler County who are interested in learning how much each proposed levy would cost their family can enter their property information in at the Butler County Auditor's website.
