ASHTABULA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Police are warning parents to check their kids Halloween candy after a report of someone handing out a tainted treat.

Andover Police tell 19 Action News a 13-year-old found a pill stuffed in a pack of Smarties, about 30 minutes after the village's Trick-or-Treat ended. The teen's parents immediately called police.

The pill is described as a round, white Excedrin Migraine pill with "L430" stamped on one side.

Andover Police officials say parents need to check their kids candies when they get home and look for any irregularities.

One parent said, "You don't eat something that looks like it's been tampered with, if it's something you don't recognize. And we sort through it. We actually sort through all the candy before we let them eat any of it."

So far, Andover Police say this is the only reported case of candy tampering. Officials tell us they know it will be tough to track down where the candy and pill came from, but they are hoping someone comes forward with more information.

If you find anything dangerous in your child's Halloween candy, be sure to contact your local law enforcement agency.
