Thomas Hamill the star of hometown Fourth of July celebration
Freed Iraqi hostage Thomas Hamill was the star of his hometown's Fourth of July celebration. Hamill served as grand marshall for the parade in Macon, Mississippi, where more than 300 people showed up -- many waving US flags. Hamill, rode in truck with a banner that read "Welcome Home Tommy." In a short speech, Hamill said he took his 23 days of captivity one day at a time, but one thing he was sure of was that God was there. Hamill was driving a fuel truck in Iraq for a Halliburton subsidiary when his convoy was ambushed April ninth. He was kidnapped and imprisoned in a farmhouse 50 miles north of Baghdad until he escaped on May second.
