Man's ear bitten off during masked group attack

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A Salisbury man had part of his ear bitten off after he and a friend were attacked and robbed by a group of 8-10 men late Wednesday night.

According to the report from the Salisbury Police Department, the two victims were walking to a convenience store in the area of Thomas and Caldwell Streets around 10:30 p.m. when they noticed the large group farther down the street, "yelling and acting out."  The two men crossed to the other side of the street to avoid the group, but they say the group of men came after them.

The two victims ran, but one was caught by the group.  The other victim turned and went back to help his friend.

The report quotes the victims then describing an attack by men, including one wearing a "Scream" Halloween mask.  The other men were wearing blue bandannas; one wore a white bandanna.

Police say the two victims were beaten, and that during the attack, one man had part of his ear bitten off.  That victim also said that he thought he heard his attacker referred to as "Alvin" by one of the others in the group.

One victim was robbed of $70, the other was robbed of $140, according to the report.

Police say due to the bandannas, the descriptions of the attackers are very vague. The victims described them as black men with their faces covered.  They could not estimate an age or other distinguishing characteristics.

Both victims were treated and released from the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333.
