Politics, politics and mo' politics

Good morning!

It'll be a chilly start to the morning that will hold true for the rest of the afternoon. Meteorologist Jeff Creighton is saying that we will remain under mostly cloudy skies today with the chance for a few showers and flurries to make their way through. Jeff and Frank will have the latest on your Wednesday forecast all morning long on FOX19!

It's been a chaotic few days in the newsroom and I'm sure many of you are a little sleepy-eyed from staying up to watch the election! After a long, close race between President Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, our country has spoken and Obama will continue his Presidency with another four-year term. Cory Stark is live at Fountain Square this morning with the latest on the election.

As far as the Tristate is concerned, Romney won both Kentucky and Indiana but lost several crucial battleground states, including Ohio. His race to the White House ended in Boston last night and both he and his running mate, Paul Ryan, conceded. Romney was a great sport about the loss and even called Obama to congratulate him on his victory.

In a VERY narrow race (51-49%), voters decided to pass Issue 4 yesterday, bumping up the terms for Cincinnati City Council to four years. Dan Wells is at City Hall this morning with more on the results.

Indiana is waking up to a new Governor today - Republican Mike Pence defeated Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham in the 2012 election. Pence succeeds Republican Governor, Mitch Daniels, who is not legally allowed to seek a third term.

Democrat Sherrod Brown was re-elected to represent the state of Ohio in the US Senate. Brown took out Republican challenger, State Treasurer Josh Mandel, 50-40%.

In addition to these election results, there were several other state and local issues on the ballot yesterday. In an attempt to not leave a novel in your inbox, head on over to our web site where our digital team has done a wonderful job at keeping up with all of the results! Rob Williams and Sheila Gray will also have more on the election on the FOX19 Morning News.

Casey Anthony is back in the spotlight after a judge denied her request to move her trial out of Orlando. A Circuit Judge ruled that Anthony will go to trial in get civil defamation lawsuit in the same courthouse where she was acquitted for the murder of her daughter, Caylee.

If you're planning on traveling to the Northeast anytime soon, you might have to reschedule. US Airlines is looking to ground around 500 flights both in and out of Newark, JFK and Laugardia in preparation for yet another storm to hit the area. Meanwhile, hundreds of nursing homes are being evacuated in NYC ahead of the Nor'easter.

If you enjoy holiday food a little too much, I'm right there with you! Thankfully, there's ways around expanding our waistline this season! Coming up in today's FOX19 Morning Xtra, Tracey Johnson and Frank Marzullo will be getting a healthy holiday 101 class that will let you enjoy the feast while staying trim!

You are now caught up on your post-election day headlines. While the political rants will continue for some time now, I think it's safe to say that we can all let out a sigh of relief to have it be over!

Have a great day!

Emily
