Police: Deputy assaulted by homeless man


A Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy was injured after being assaulted by a homeless man Tuesday morning.

Police say the deputy was in charge of a clean up crew that was working in the area of Elm and Henry. The deputy was assaulted by Dennis McElroy, 54, who is homeless.

McElroy was arrested and taken to University Hospital for treatment. He was released and taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center, charged with obstructing official business and assault on a police officer.

The deputy was also taken to the hospital and released. His name has not been released.
