Parents of two of the students injured in a fatal Carroll County school bus crash file a lawsuit against the bus driver and the school board.

Attorney Eric Deters, representing the parents, filed paperwork at the Carroll County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon of October 29 as the children were being taken home from preschool.

Ryder Deitz and Caroline Tuttle, both 3 years old, died after the bus went off the road, partially overturned on its side and struck a tree.

Nine children and two adults were on a Head Start bus at the time of the crash. The parents say the two preschoolers have broken legs and collar bones.

The lawsuit alleges the driver of the bus, Laura Reed, "operated the school bus in excess of the speed limit and in a negligent, reckless and unsafe manner."

The suit goes on to allege that the school board was negligent by not decupling Reed for previous safety violations. Those exact violations were not detailed in the lawsuit.

The parents are asking for compensation and lawyer fees.
