LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A woman in her 80s was shoved to the ground outside of a mall and police are searching for the man responsible.

According to police, on Tuesday a man in the parking lot of Jefferson Mall approached the woman and asked her for a ride.

When the woman refused the man allegedly pushed her to the ground.

"He got in there, took her purse and some belongings and then fled the scene," said Louisville Metro police officer, Carey Klain.

The suspect took off in a car that was waiting for him.

He then went to the Shell gas station located at Outer Loop and Preston Highway and used the victim's credit card. Mani Arora was the cashier working that day.

"One in coming my store, one is waiting for outside," Arora said.

Arora said the man tried to buy $96 in gas but ended up paying for $36 via credit card, along with other things. Arora said the man was acting strangely.

"Yeah, he just like he was very hurried. He slide the card and go too very fast and I saw him drive very fast, too," he said.

Police believe the car he got away in was a newer model black Toyota Corolla. Police said the suspects then went to the Wal-Mart on Standiford Plaza Drive, where the same suspect was seen on surveillance video buying Nintendo games in the store's electronic's department.

"That's just stupid. It's stupid. I don't know why," said Arora. The incident struck a chord with him. "I feel that. Because, an 80 year old. She looks like she's helpless. So, I very heartily feel. That's not good."

Officer Klain offered words of advice for anyone, especially older residents of Kentuckiana during the holiday season. "We would just recommend that you be very alert of your surroundings. It's holiday season, people are going to be shopping and again, criminals are opportunists. They look for areas that are going to be busy."

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, with light colored facial stubble, and between 5' 9'' and 6' tall. He was last seen wearing a tan coat and a dark colored hat. Police said he has a noticeable stain on one of his upper top teeth.

If you have any information in this case you are asked to call Metro police at (502) 574 – LMPD.
