Diner in Mainville holds annual Thanksgiving meal for all

The owner of the Village Pizza and Diner in Mainville is spreading the spirit of sharing today by inviting the entire community for a free Thanksgiving meal.

For the past four years the diner has been providing Thanksgiving meals to anyone who comes through the door regardless of their ability to pay.

Volunteer John Kissick blews a whistle outside of the diner trying to lure the hungry inside for a free meal, which comes courtesy of the diner's owner, Scott Anderson. "We came up with the idea of having a free thanksgiving dinner for anybody and everybody. Anybody that needs a free meal, a hot meal. A lot of our regulars will come and its kind of taken off and progressed from year to year. Its become more of a community effort now. We have about 20 volunteers.

Volunteers who piled mounds of food onto plates which were served to thankful guests like David Louderback.  He says "Its just wonderful, wonderful blessing that they are doing for everybody."

Louderback and his wife Jacqueline were so moved by the free meal they decided to make a contribution to help the diner feed more people. Jacqueline Louderback says "This is just unbelievable. You know, I made a big post on facebook about it and told them how proud I am to do something for my community and to give back to people who don't have what we have and it makes you appreciate everything you have."

Volunteer Lisa Williams says "You've got people that are truly just lonely and have no place else to go. You've got people that can't afford it. You've got people that don't know how to cook, I don't know, You've got every walk of life here and everybody is welcome."

Anderson and his crew plan also delivered more than a dozen meals to those who couldn't get to the diner.

Anderson says he also plans to have a community meal on Christmas.
